What are the requirements before you start with the installation of the DIY blinds?
If you planning to make a roman blind for you window, the basic thing that you need to do is to take a measurement of the window. After the measurement has been taken gather the below given materials such as
- Fabric for your blind
- Velcro tape
- 6mm dowels
- Nylon cord
- Eye hooks
- Plastic rings
- Couple of ‘L’ hooks for the cord
- Battens (10 x 44mm) to fit the width of the window

Cutting the fabric, ironing and sewing the cloth properly:
- Cut the fabric as per the measurement of the window.
- Press the cloth using an iron. Fold the bottom and the sides and stich it.
- Place a rod where the rod pocket will be fixed and mark this with a pin. Then remove the rod. This will give you an instruction for pinning the width for all the pockets for your rods.
- Now, start sewing the bottom up to the side, fold over and across the top, and back down the other side and sew around the pockets.
- Press the pockets flat where rods will be installed.
- Now assemble the blinds and cut the rods slightly shorter than the width of the blind so that they won’t be visible.
- Paint the slats to match the frame or the surrounding wall.
- Sew the plastic rings on the back of the blind. For a broader blind, several numbers of plastic rings will be required while for a blind with shorter width, use 3-4 plastic rings.
- Start with the spare blinds, and then pop off the plugs on the bottoms.
- After this, the strings located at the bottom should be un-knotted.
- Cut every string on the top of the blinds.
- Tweak away the blind slats leaving only the strings.
- Eliminate the heavy bottom slab from the blind slats by sliding it side-ward.
- Attach the bottom bar to the top bar and then cut the shades to the desired length.
- Fix the bottom bar to the glued strip of the temporary shades.
- Install the newly made DIY blinds
Thus, it can be concluded by stating that DIY blinds or the made to measure blinds are more concrete choice as it is next to impossible to find a blind that will properly fit the window. So, if you have a large house with uniquely designed windows, go for the DIY blinds.
